FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - WORKSHOP ON GAMIFICATION

Teaching learning is a continuous process. The teachers need to update their knowledge and skills to make the interactions with students interesting, engaging and productive. Conventional pedagogy needs to be supported by modern novel techniques of teaching and learning.

Gamification is one such tool. The learning objectives are reached by presenting the learning process through games. These games could be conventional physical games with props or virtual games. Suitable game can be selected to enhance the pleasure of the learning activity. Gamification is extensively used in developed countries but is still underutilized in medical education.

An interactive and educative one day workshop for the Faculty of MCOMS on the above theme was organised on 1st April 2021. The workshop was conducted by the Dept of Microbiology in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and Ms Sonia Suarez from Spain, an expert in the field of gamification.  Ms Sonia Suarez is visiting various places in Nepal including Pokhara to conduct gamification workshops. She was ably assisted by Dr Deependra Hamal.

The participants learned the educaplay, khaoot, and genially platforms by discussion and practice. All the participants expressed their desire to learn more and practice these skills in their teaching learning activities. They showed keen desire to participate in future programs and enhance their skills and knowledge. The MCOMS plans to conduct more activities for development of the Faculty.
