Celebration of first College Science Day at MCOMS, Pokhara
The very first College Science Day was organized successfully in MCOMS, Pokhara on November 22, 2018. An organizing committee led by Dr Daya Ram Pokharel worked hard day and night to make this event a complete success and memorable one. The program was sponsored by MCOMS, American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and certain local trade partners. The science day celebration, which was responded hugely by students and faculties, involved three oral and one poster presentation sessions. These sessions covered the researches from different areas of basic, nursing and clinical sciences.
The program was jointly hosted by Dr Hari Poudel and Dr Sonam Chaudhary. The formal inauguration of College Science Day began with invocation of Saraswati vandana by students of Nursing Program and lighting of lamp by officiating Dean Dr O P Talwar and Hospital Director Dr Vijay Singhi. Dr Daya Ram Pokharel welcomed the invited guests and participants of science day celebration. Dr O P Talwar and Dr Vijay Singhi addressed the audience and shed light on the relevance and importance of celebrating science day at medical school. The scientific sessions were chaired and judged by senior faculty members both from the basic and clinical sciences. Based on the judge’s report, three best poster and best oral presenters were nominated and awarded with cash prizes. The best oral presentation prizes were awarded to Dr Dharma Raj Bhatta (1st position), Dr Subash Bhattarai (2nd Position) and Dr Arnab Ghosh (3rd Position). Likewise, the best poster prizes were awarded to Dr Surendra Maharjan (1st Position, Resident, Dept of Community Medicine), Dr Jyoti Jha (2nd Position, Resident, Dept of Pediatrics) and Mr Phanindra Prasad Poudel (3rd Position, Asst Professor, Dept of Anatomy). Dr Shishir Gokhale, Dr Vijay Singhi and Dr O P Talwar separately awarded the certificates, cash prizes and mementos to the presenters, best presentation award winners, judges and organizing committee members. The program was concluded with the closing address by Basic Science Director, Dr Shihsir gokhale and vote of thanks by Organizing Secretary Dr Daya Ram Pokharel.
