Current Role:  Dr. Surya Chaudhri is the Medical Director of Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal, since October 2019. In his present role, he is accountable for the entire operations of the hospital, including the management of doctors, nurses, paramedics. He is also responsible for hospital planning, patient care, training of medical and nursing students, healthcare quality, formulation & implementation of SoPs, checklists, orders, and instructions while maintaining organic growth and healthy P&L of the hospital. 

Previous Experience:   Dr. Surya served as the Group Medical and Training Director at Indira Gandhi Group of Institutions near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, from Feb 2019 till Oct 2019. The Group comprised a 350-bed facility running under three different hospitals; in addition, it also had a nursing and a paramedical college. There, he was responsible for clinical, operational, training, and financial leadership for Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Indira Gandhi Mother & Child Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Eye Hospital, Indira Gandhi College of Nursing & Indira Gandhi Institute of Para-medical Sciences. In addition to his role as the Group Medical & Training Director, he also served as the Principal of Indira Gandhi Institute of Paramedical Sciences. 

Military Service:   Dr. Surya Chaudhri is a Navy Veteran and had served as a Medical Officer from Sep 1997- Jul 2018 in a variety of clinical and administrative roles within India and abroad. For his exceptional performance in the Navy, he received an appointment for a diplomatic assignment at Russia (2003- 2004) and completed many foreign missions around the world. His postings in the Navy were well rounded, with hands-on experience in patient care, disaster management and response, training of doctors joining the Armed Forces, training for operational readiness and war worthiness, implementing healthcare quality, policy formulation, and implementation. He opted for pre-mature retirement in the rank of Surgeon Captain (equivalent to Colonel in Army) while serving as the Commanding Officer of a Military Hospital.

Education & Training:   Dr. Surya received his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal in 1994; After his brief stint in hospitals in New Delhi as a Medical Officer, he joined the Indian Navy in September 1997. His brilliant performance earned him a selection for a 'Staff Course' at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Ooty, where he received a Master of Science (Defence & Strategic Studies) in 2006. He completed an MBA (Healthcare Management) from Sikkim Manipal University, India, in 2010. After retiring from Navy, he completed a full-time General Management Program from IIM, Lucknow. He also has earned JCI and NABH assessor accreditations and recently completed an International Safety Program from John Hopkins University.

Honours & Awards:   Dr. Surya had received several honours and awards during his tenure with the Navy, such as commendations by The Chief of Naval Staff (1999), The Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (Western Command) (2006), and the Director-General Indian Coast Guard (2014) for selfless devotion to duty. Recently, Dr. Surya has been awarded the Global Visionary Award due to be presented in January 2020, for his work on Sustainable, Affordable and Quality Healthcare in Remote Locations in the Developing Countries. He has been selected as a Keynote Speaker to present this paper at Global Healthcare League, Lisbon, Portugal, in February 2020. He is also a guest speaker at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.
