During the winters the minimum temperature is around 4 degree Celsius so you will require warm clothing, blankets or quilts. These may be got from home or purchased locally. Room heaters are not allowed. If you wear warm clothes, it is quite comfortable. Sri Lankans should get a good jacket and some sweaters from Sri Lanka, since clothes are the cheapest there. (Cosmetics and toiletries are cheapest in Nepal and students usually take these home from here!) Cooking is not allowed in hostels. Electric hot plates are not allowed. Students may keep an electric kettle.

HOSTEL & OTHER FEES: Hostel and other fees may be sent along with tuition fees or can be paid in the college at the time of admission, either as a DD or as cash. The Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of ‘The Manipal Education & Medical Group (Nepal) Pvt Ltd’ and it must be made payable at Kolkata, India / Kathmandu, Nepal. For hostel and other fees, a single DD is fine. 1 Indian Rupee = 1.6 Nepali Rupees; 1 US$ = Approx 70 Nepali Rupees. Indian Rupees 500 / 1000 notes are not accepted in Nepal. Hostel fees include housecleaning and maintenance charges. Laundry charges will be deducted from the mess account and student shall not pay it directly to the maids.

Since post from and to Nepal takes a long time, we request parents to take the original fee receipts when they come to leave the student, instead of asking for it to be posted to them. Students & parents are requested to take the original receipts of the fees paid and to see that a copy of each receipt is in the student's file.

Campus Discipline: All MBBS students are put into the hostels where they remain in close interaction of the Hostel Committee which includes two Hostel Wardens for each of the Boys hostels and two hostel wardens for each of the Girls hostels. Director Student Affairs, along with the Chairman Hostel Committee, ensure thorough student welfare during and off the working hours. Heads of the Departments and Director Academics ensure all round academic excellence development among groups of students while their primitive focus remain oriented towards robust individual student development.

Forthrightly tests are conducted to measure the performance of the students and Dean’s counseling of each individual student is done at least twice in a semester – reports of which are forwarded to their parents.

Students are required to undergo additional 4 to 6 hours of self study every day, 330 days in a year in the comprehensive multifaceted subjects of medicine in an integrated fashion of learning which calls for a great degree of commitment put forward by each of the students.

Medicare Scheme: Students may opt for Medicare Scheme. Under Medicare, consultations, hospital admissions and investigations are free. (Though some special investigations like CT scan, plastic surgery etc are not totally free.) All medicines have to be paid for. MTH has all basic and some of the super specialities with excellent diagnostic support available.

VISA: Foreign students must take a tourist visa for at least 60 days which will give the college sufficient time to arrange for a study visa. The college assists the students to obtain & renew study visas. For obtaining student visa, the student’s bank account must show a minimum of US$3000. Students should bring at least US$3100, open a bank account, deposit this money in it, and get a bank statement. This money can then be withdrawn to pay for the hostel fees etc. All foreign students must fill a visa application form in black ink, in block letters. Get it checked from the Asst Manager - Administration, make 5 copies of it, stick same picture on all, sign all and submit to visa in charge within one week along with - a copy of passport showing the passport and visa validity date. A statement from the bank to say that the student has $3000 in his / her bank account and the original passport will be required to be sent to the Immigration Office at a later date which would be after about 15 days from the date of submission of completed visa application forms. Presently Sri Lankan students are exempted from study visa fee, however, they need to maintain a bank account with US$3000/-.

TRAVEL INFORMATION: You can come to Pokhara by air or road. Indians do not need a visa to enter Nepal but must have a Passport / Voter's ID card if taking an international flight.

Travel by air: Kathmandu is the entry point when coming in by air. Most flights to Kathmandu reach around mid-day. Flying time between Kathmandu and Pokhara is about 25 minutes, where as by road it takes about 5 to 6 hours. Air tickets for Pokhara are usually available on the spot or can be booked in advance. The airfare from Kathmandu to Pokhara is approximately Nepali Rupees 2500 including airport tax (for foreign nationals it is US$98). The domestic airlines are not giving any student concessions. Airlines plying between Nepal and India do give student concessions. For that the ticket has to be bought with the help of the airline concession form which has to be signed by the Principal. Students also have to show the college ID card. College ID cards are made only after all the students have joined and a roll number is allotted to each. This takes about a month. From your next trip onwards you shall be able to avail airline concessions. On arrival at Pokhara airport, please ask to be taken to the Deep Campus. The airport has a taxi service. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the college.

Travel by road: Gorakhpur is the closest railhead. It takes about 2 Hrs (100 Kms) by road from Gorakhpur to arrive at Sonauli which is a small town at the India Nepal border. You should be able to get a small cab for about NPRs5000 and a van for about NPRs6,000 from Sunauli to Pokhara. The same fare would be applicable for travel by taxi between Kathmandu and Pokhara. If you are traveling in your own vehicle it is recommended that you possess enough petrol/diesel to avoid any need of filling the same in Nepal as it may not be made available to an Indian vehicle by the petrol pumps in Nepal in view of the scarcity.

It is not necessary for parents / guardians to accompany the students at the time of admission. If it is not convenient for anyone to accompany, students can come alone and move in to the hostel rooms allotted to them directly on arrival. We help the students to settle down. We like parents to stay in touch so that we can discuss the students progress / problems with the parents, so they should call up once in a while. We believe in a good academic atmosphere on the campus and we seek the parents' support in helping the students maintain discipline and do well in both academics as well as in their all round development. We have a fresher's day one/ two months after start of classes.

Since most students arrive with their parents at the same time, we are unable to accommodate parents in the college guest rooms in Deep or Phulbari campuses, which are limited.
