The Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology was started in August 2000.

Facilities 

  • High Energy Compact Linear Accelerator with MLC- PRIMUS, SIEMENS, Germany 
  • Dual Energy 6 & 18 MV to treat deep seated tumors and to spare skin and superficial tissues
  • Electron energies 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 & 21 MeV to treat superficial tumors and to spare critical structures
  • Multi Leaf Collimators (MLC) to shape the field size and to treat irregularly shaped tumors and to spare normal tissues 
  • 3D Conformal RT to localise the tumor more precisely and to treat it with high dose RT and to spare the normal tissue at the same time
  • Teletherapy Cobalt Unit- PHOENIX ,THERATRONICS, Canada
    i. Used for treatment of various solid tumors
    ii. It can also be used for ARC Therapy and Rotation Therapy
  • Computerised Treatment Planning Simulator- SIMVIEW NT, SIEMENS, Germany
    i. Used for localisation of tumors and other normal structures based on anatomical land marks for planning of treatment before execution
  • 3 D - Treatment Planning System -PLATO, NUCLETRON, Netherlands
    i. Used for dose calculations for SAD Techniques, 3DCRT and CT scan based planning
  • Vidar Film Scanner
    i. Used for scanning CT films for the purpose of 3DCRT
  • Local Area Network Therapy Information System – LANTIS, SIEMENS, Germany
    i. Connecting the treatment planning system, Simulator and LINAC using this Local Area Network


Services provided by the department 

  • Screening and early detection of cancer 
  • Outpatient Chemotherapy in our Day care facility 
  • Evaluation of cancer patients for Inpatient Chemotherapy
  • Palliative care for terminally ill cancer patients
  • Radiotherapy planning including 3D- conformal planning and Simulation 
  • Execution of treatment for all solid tumors with Linear Accelerator and Telecobalt unit using the Record and Verify system of LANTIS 
  • Personnel Radiation monitoring service for all Radiation workers of the hospital 
  • Calibration and Quality assurance for the Radiation equipments
