Research Activities

With the installment of new equipment, initiation of PG programmes and consolidation of community activities, this department has already started the following research activities

A. Completed research

• Lens opacity as a biomarker of exposure on the study of indoor air pollution.

  • Study on identification of factors affecting the relationship between CCT and Intra Ocular pressure
  • A comparative study of tear secretion and tear film instability in patients with pterygium and normal healthy subjects
  • Study on ocular changes in patients with diabetes mellitus
  • Study on corneal thickness in normal population of western Nepal
  • Study on corneal curvature in normal population in Pokhara
  • A comparative study of induced astigmatism in SICS by 6-6.5 mm straight and frown incisions

Achievements 

  • Dr. K.R. Kaini attended two Workshops in Kathmandu
  • National planning workshop on refractive error organised by Til Ganga Eye Centre, Nepal with support from International centre for Eye Health, London and Apex body for Eye Health, Ministry of Health and Population (1- 3 December, 2008)
  • National workshop on “Vision 20/20”, organized by Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal with support from WHO (5-6 December 2008)
  • Mr Krishna Acharya, ophthalmic assistant, who is looking after the community eye programme of this department, participated as a trainer in five days Primary Eye Care training programme for Health post personnel of eastern part of Kaski district with the financial support of Asha Health care.

Future plans and proposed expansion etc

This department is determined to strengthen its services/ activities by acquiring Synaptophore, Fundus camera, A/B scan, Contact lens & Low vision aids in a year or two. To consolidate the PG programme, it will organise one or two workshops in a year, initiate academic exchange programmes with other PG centres/ Tertiary eye care centres in Nepal in the near future.
