Facilities


1. Department of Anesthesiology provides the under mentioned facilities for all types of surgical procedures / cases in all age groups (Neonates, Infants, Paediatrics cases, Adult and Gediatric Cases)

2. Other departments use the following operation theatre facilities

i. General Surgery
ii. Reconstructive Surgery
iii. Neuro surgery
iv. Endocrinology Surgical Procedures. (Thyroid, as well as other related endocrine glands)
v. Gynecology and obstetrics
vi. Otorhynology, Head and neck surgery (ENT)
vii. Laparoscopic Surgical Procedures both diagnostic and operative for general surgery, gynaeobst, urology and thoracoscopy.
viii. Onco Surgery
ix. Orthopaedics
x. Joint Replacement Procedures and arthroscopy
xi. Maxillo facial/ Dental

3. Outpatient department services provided by the department of anesthesiology

i. Electro Convulsive theraphy (ECT)
ii. Radiotherapy and Radio diagnosis, CT scan mainly for paediatrics cases.
iii. Pre-anesthesia clinic for pre-anesthesia evaluation
iv. Pain clinic both for inpatients' and outpatients


4. Department of Anesthesiology provides outpatient services to patients for pre-anaesthesia evaluation for various surgical procedures to be undertaken by the various departments utilising operation theatre facilities. Total number of pre-anesthesia evaluations carried out during the year is 1935


5. Publications

Department of anaesthesiology has published case report for two cases of sub mental intubation for unstable maxillary fracture with Kathmandu University Medical Journal

6. Conferences' Attended

7th SACA conference held at Kathmandu during Feb 2007 was attended by Dr. S N Bawa and Dr Isaac Babu. Dr. S N Bawa, Professor and Head department of Anaesthesiology chaired one session of 7th SACA conference

7. Achievements:

The department of Anaesthesiology is approved for the post graduate studies for the degree of MD (Anaesthesiology) by the Nepal Medical Council and Kathmandu University Kathmandu
One candidate Dr. sarish Prasad Amatya is admitted at MCOMS/MTH Pokhara during May June 2008 for MD (Anaesthesiology)


8. Department of Anesthesiology detailed two anaesthesia assistants for the vaginial hystereatomy camps. During the year at two different places. One anaesthesia assistant was detailed for walling camp and the second anaesthesia assistant was detailed for the Bhairwa Camp.

10. New Equipment Procedure: During the year 2007/2008 no new equipments were procured by the department of Anesthesiology. However equipments projected as per Appendix 'B' list b attached for procurement.


Appendix 'B'

The equipments to be procured and projected for year 2007-2008 are as below

i. Nerve stimulator. TOF Guard from organon - one
ii. Horizontal Highspeed, High Pressure Autoclave Machine - one
iii. Flexible and Rigid fiber optic intubating laryngoscope with all its attachments and accessories
iv. Equpiment for commissioning of operation theatre no 2 (Anaesthesia and general equipment) meant for neurosurgery

Appendix 'C'

Department of Anaesthesiology was established at Manipal College of Medical Sciences Pokhara (Nepal) on 15 January 1997

For the first two years, w.e.f January 1997 to December 1998, the Anaesthesiologists of Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Pokhara along with other departments functioned and provided their services at WRH, Pokhara.

15 January, 1999 operation theatre services were initiated and two of the major operation theatres at the ground floor near the emergency services at Manipal teaching hospital, Pokhara were established and became functional. One septic OT and one minor OT also was made functional. The ground floor OT remained functional till end of July 2004/ 04 Aug 2004.

04 August 2008, the operation theatre services shifted to present location on the 3rd floor. Five operation theaters were made functional with details as below

V Gen Surgery OBst, ENT Opthalmology and Maxillofacial
VI General Surgery, Laproscopicsurgery, Reconstructive Surgery Minor and Infected cases


Operation theatre no II is presently being renovated to unit for the commitments of Neurosurgery
