Brig (Dr) Prasanta Kumar Chakraborty is an alumni of 1959 batch of Calcutta Medical College. After obtaining MBBS degree from Calcutta University in June 1994, he joined Army Medical Corps on 05 Oct 1964. He had taken part in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak war and Counter Insurgency operation in NE States. He did his post graduation in Psychiatry from Armed Forces Medical College in 1974 and served as Psychiatrist in various Military Hospitals. He was Prof & HOD, Psychiatry AFMC, Pune and consultant (Psychiatry) Armed Forces Medical Services. He was later on appointed as DDMS of an active Corps in Counter Insurgency Operation and Dy Commandant Command Hospital (W.C) in Administrative Cadre. After putting on 36 ½ yrs of service in Armed Forces, he retired on 01 May 2001. After retirement from Armed Forces he was appointed as Director Cum CEO and Prof of Psychiatry at Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry and allied Sciences (RINPAS), Kanke, Ranchi with effect from 02 July 2001 under Govt. of Jharkhand. He retired from there on 31 July 2007. After retirement from RINPAS, he joined Manipal Teaching Hospital as Hospital Director and Prof of Psychiatry.
